Academy Development
The authority of a government is partially represented by its police force. The main duties of the police force are to maintain law and order, protect human rights, prevent and combat crime and provide assistance to the populace. At all times, the police force operate in accordance with the domestic and international law enforcement standards and demonstrate commitment to the rule of law in practice. The success of implementing a civilian police force based on the principles of democratic policing and the rule of law hinges on the basic training police recruits receive during their initial training. Without a solid foundation in basic police skills that are accepted by the international community, the recruit is doomed to fail. Therefore, the development and implementation of a police training academy that is focused on establishing a solid foundation of basic police skills that is applicable to the project country. PBSI’s team of advisors understand the differences between training civilian police in the US and training civilian police in developing democracies and post conflict nations. They have provided academy development assistance in Kosovo, Kuwait, Macedonia and Panama. Additionally, our team has former directors of nationally accredited law enforcement training academies who understand the concepts of adult learning and the universal instruction techniques that have proven effective in training police recruits. MethodologyPBSI utilizes our standard five development modules to address the different phases of laboratory development. Any combination of modules can be used to meet the needs of the project country. The developmental modules include:
