Clandestine Laboratory
With the increase in the number of clandestine laboratory seizures throughout the country, there has been a corresponding escalation of problems confronting state and local agencies that are called to the scene of these laboratories. Often, it is state or local police who first encounter these laboratories and must ensure that they are investigated, dismantled, and disposed of appropriately and training is required in support of their efforts. To meet this need, PBSI provides onsite training programs that are adjusted to the specific needs of the host country. Our trainers have, on average more than 25 years experience in the areas of investigative techniques, sampling and evidence gathering and our programs are updated annually to meet or exceed the training requirements of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120. Clandestine labs have expanded outside the realm of the drug trafficker. Terrorist, both domestic and international, utilize clandestine laboratories to manufacture explosives used in improvised explosive devices. It is estimated that 10% of the clandestine labs encounter by law enforcement have some connection with explosives. The hazards associated with the clandestine manufacture of drugs are increased by an order of magnitude when the presence of explosives enters the equation. Scope of ServicesThe forensic investigation of clandestine drug and clandestine explosives labs require the same techniques. Therefore, PBSI combines these training programs into a single training program. The emphasis may be drug related in a counter narcotics environment or have an explosive emphasis when terrorist activity is suspected.
